There’s nothing better than a good walk. Especially when life is full of change, stress, or that weird in-between feeling of “I should be celebrating, but I’m kind of freaking out.”

That’s where I am right now. I’m 22, with one semester left of college. Most of my friends just graduated. And while I’m insanely proud of them, I’m also feeling all the feelings: excitement, fear, comparison, confusion—sometimes all at once.

It hit me this week when I realized how close I am to crossing that invisible line between “student” and “adult.” And honestly? It’s overwhelming.

So I went on a walk. Three, actually.

1. Chaparral Park – When You Need a Breath of Green

Located off Hayden in Scottsdale, Chaparral is a hidden gem (shoutout to Midwest transplants who miss grass). The full loop around the park is paved, peaceful, and offers the kind of simple joys you forget to look for: dogs running free, kids playing ball, sunlight bouncing off the pond.

There’s something grounding about this place. You’re not climbing a mountain or sprinting a trail. You’re just moving forward. One foot in front of the other.

2. The Canal – For When You Don’t Know Where You’re Headed (And That’s Okay)

I started near Fashion Square, walking along the Canal as it winds through Old Town. What I love about this path is its flexibility. You can go for 15 minutes or 5 miles. You’re near water, near people, and just far enough from the chaos to think clearly.

Walking here reminded me that the path doesn’t have to be straight or defined to still be worth taking.

3. Dreamy Draw at Piestewa Peak – When You’re Ready to Feel Strong Again

This one starts as a walk, but let’s be real—you can level up into full hike mode if you’re feeling bold. Dreamy Draw mixes paved and dirt trails, so it meets you where you’re at. There’s something about being surrounded by desert mountains that makes your problems feel a little smaller.

By the time I finished this walk, I wasn’t any closer to figuring out my life. But I felt calmer. More sure that I would figure it out.

Walking Isn’t Just Exercise. It’s Therapy (The Free Kind).

If you’re reading this and going through a transition—whether it’s graduation, a job change, or just life being lifey—this is your reminder to take a walk. Let the air hit your face. Let the quiet do its job.

And if you’re a local business looking to reach people who value wellness, growth, and community—you’re in the right place. This is what Living North Phoenix is all about.
