Meet Sky Crossing resident George Moakley, a scientist, inventor, and published author whose passion for biology inspired the scientifically grounded Eden Series and a lifetime of innovation.
George Moakley is a Sky Crossing resident, scientist, inventor, and published science fiction author whose background in evolutionary biology and decades of innovation inspired the Eden series. By combining real science, global adventures, and imaginative storytelling, he’s created a unique literary world where even the monsters make scientific sense.
Most people who study evolutionary biology go on to careers in research labs or universities.
George Moakley took a different path.
Today, he’s a North Phoenix resident, inventor, scientist, and published author whose fascination with biology has evolved into an award-worthy science fiction series built on something rarely found in the genre—real science.
His stories transport readers to distant planets filled with alien ecosystems and extraordinary creatures, but behind every page is decades of scientific curiosity, world travel, and a lifelong desire to understand how life works.
It’s exactly the kind of remarkable story you wouldn’t expect to find living right here in Sky Crossing.
A Lifelong Curiosity About How Life Works
George moved from Queens, New York, to Arizona in 1982 with plans to study evolutionary biology.
Like many college students, reality quickly introduced another priority—paying tuition.
A technology job eventually became a successful career spanning more than four decades, leading to innovative work and multiple patents along the way.
But science never stopped being part of his life.
Outside of work, George continued studying biology, exploring rainforests, diving oceans, and photographing wildlife around the world. Every adventure became another opportunity to observe how ecosystems function and how living organisms adapt to their environments.
Today, George and his wife, Diana, call Sky Crossing home, where they’ve built a life centered around family, raising seven children, welcoming two grandchildren, and pursuing the passions that continue to inspire them.
When Science Fiction Didn't Feel Scientific Enough
George has always loved science fiction.
There was just one problem.
His scientific background made it difficult to ignore all the biological impossibilities found in many monster stories.
As he puts it:
“Given my background, I’m always distracted by all the reasons the stories just are not possible.”
Rather than simply accepting that, he decided to write the kind of story he wanted to read.
What if an alien ecosystem actually worked?
What if predators behaved like real predators?
What if every creature evolved according to believable biological principles?
That single idea eventually became the Eden Series.
Building a World That Could Actually Exist
Set centuries into humanity’s future, the Eden Series follows explorers traveling beyond our solar system using real physics rather than fictional shortcuts.
When they discover a breathtaking planet filled with oceans, deserts, and dense rainforests, they name it Eden.
But paradise comes with predators.
Unlike traditional science fiction, every ecosystem, food chain, environmental interaction, and creature behavior in George’s novels is carefully designed around evolutionary biology and ecological principles.
Even the monsters make sense.
One of the series’ most unique elements is that readers experience parts of the story from the predator’s perspective, creating an entirely different way of thinking about survival and the natural world.
It’s science fiction grounded in scientific possibility.
Adventures That Inspired the Fiction
Many of the incredible settings throughout the Eden Series weren’t imagined from behind a desk.
They were experienced firsthand.
The dense rainforests.
The underwater worlds.
The remote landscapes.
George has explored many of the environments that inspired his writing, carrying cameras through tropical forests and diving beneath oceans that already feel like alien worlds.
Those real-life experiences give his fictional planet an authenticity that readers immediately notice.
The science may be speculative.
The inspiration is very real.
The Reward That Matters Most
George has published multiple novels.
He’s attended book events.
He’s met readers.
He’s personally signed thousands of books.
Yet when asked what means the most to him, the answer isn’t awards or sales.
It’s the conversations.
Nothing compares to meeting readers who become fully immersed in the world he’s created—people who return excited to discuss the science, the creatures, and the ideas explored throughout the series.
For George, creating meaningful connections through storytelling remains the greatest reward.
Why This Matters to North Phoenix
North Phoenix is home to people with extraordinary careers, remarkable talents, and fascinating life experiences that often go unnoticed.
George Moakley is one of those neighbors.
His story reminds us that innovation doesn’t only happen inside research labs or corporate offices.
Sometimes it happens around a kitchen table.
Sometimes it becomes a novel.
Sometimes it inspires readers to see science through an entirely new lens.
His combination of scientific expertise, creativity, and lifelong curiosity reflects exactly the kind of people who make North Phoenix such an interesting place to live.
A Neighbor Who Never Stopped Asking "What If?"
From studying evolutionary biology and earning patents to exploring the world’s rainforests and oceans, George Moakley has spent a lifetime asking questions.
Today, those questions continue through the pages of the Eden Series, where science and imagination work together to create stories unlike anything else on the bookshelf.
He’s proof that remarkable ideas can begin in North Phoenix—and take readers to entirely different worlds.
