Local Dive Bar: Irish Charm in North Phoenix

By CM / Local Lens Contributor

The Dubliner: North Phoenix’s Irish Pub with History and Heart

local dive bar with irish soul

Who doesn’t love a good dive bar – homey atmosphere, cheap drinks, a pool table, bar food, and character. At the Dubliner, you get all that plus some Irish Charm.

Located off Thunderbird and 40th Street, The Dubliner is one of the oldest authentic Irish bars in the Valley and has racked up numerous local awards over the years.

It’s a spot where regulars swap stories over pints, sports fans crowd around the big screens, and newcomers instantly feel like they’ve been going there for years

Pub Style Comfort Eats

Pub Style Comfort Eats
The Dubliner does the bar basics right – wings, fried pickles, burgers, sandwiches, onion rings, fries, you name it, It’s a family favorite spot for a laid-back comfort dinner. We usually start with a half-and-half appetizer plate: fried pickles on one side, fried mushrooms on the other.

For the main course, the shepherd’s pie is a must try authentic Irish dish from their menu. Served with two pieces of Irish soda bread for some dipping action, this dish is the ultimate comfort meal – with rich layers of beef, mashed potatoes, vegetables, and cheese. Another go to menu item are the sliders served a-la-carte. Choose from cheeseburger, fried chicken, corned beef, prime rib, and fish. My personal favorite? The fried chicken served buffalo style!

The Bailey’s mint chocolate cream pie is a delicious combination of ice cream, chocolate, and mint with a hint of Bailey’s Irish Cream. It hits the spot especially when it’s a toasty 115 degrees outside.

Sports, Music, and More

Not only is the interior lined with cool art decor and nods to Irish history, they also have a giant projector in one corner, making this a great spot to go watch the game.

Besides being a great spot for sports fans, they also host karaoke nights, live music, comedy shows, and other seasonal events that all can be found on their website. The vibes inside are high spirited and all the bartender and servers are super friendly.

It’s no beer or Irish food but not too far from The Dubliner is a North Phoenix favorite smoothie place. Maybe you had 1 too many and need a refresher the next morning? Check out Paradise Juice in North Phoenix.

Irish Charm with Family History

Not only is this dive bar rich with Irish history, my own family has personal connection to this spot. For around 5 years, back in the late 90s early 2000s, my parents played on a slow-pitch softball team sponsored by the Dubliner.

In turn the Dubliner was a go-to hangout spot for my parents and many of their friends after games. Its so cool that this local spot has been around for 40 years and is still going strong.

If you’re looking for a North Phoenix dive bar with character, history, and a dash of Irish hospitality, The Dubliner should be on your list. Just come hungry, bring a few friends, and don’t be surprised if it becomes your go-to spot, too!
